Formal Private Education Network in Somalia (FPENS) is a local umbrella organization established in December 1999 in Mogadishu, Somalia. It has various branches inside Somalia while under its umbrella, it has 98 associate members representing local NGO’s having a stake in the education sector of our country. FPENS is an active member of the civil society organizations in Somalia and a nationally recognized leader in Education matters. The Organization will always be remembered for its efforts in coordinating other education sector organizations at the time when the central government in Somalia had collapsed. This coordination led to the reviving of the otherwise almost extinct Education system and the successes realised to date are as a result of the vast experience borrowed from FPENS.

The organization is non-governmental, non-political, non-partisan and non profit making, flexible and committed to providing education programs that answer to the ever dynamic needs of our society bearing relevance to current situations in Somalia. FPENS is open to all Education actors in our country and remains an organization whose ideals are to revamp the Somali Education System with the best from within the teaching fraternity in order to be regionally competitive and ultimately pivot this ideals to march international standards.

FPENS is mandated to carry out activities reflecting to its mission, goals and vision, for Education development.  The organization is entitled to improve the quality of education, create chances of education for all, build capacity in the Somali community for the promotion of Education through workshops and seminars. We emphasis on working with local NGO’s to overcome illiteracy.

Our activities are concentrated in the following areas of Education:

  • Formulation of school Syllabus

  • Establishment and Management of Teacher Training Collages

  • Teachers’ Postings

  • Teacher Pre- and In – Service Trainings

  • Education capacity building seminars and Workshops (The five in the proposals))

We are accountable and transparent to our donors and stakeholders in all our activities and that has earned us the morall and material support from International agencies, local partners, local authorities and activity beneficiaries. To attain out objectives and goals, we are guided by the rule of law, internal regulations, Code of Conduct and procedures in organizational governance as well as strictly adhering to our well formulated internal policy system.
